Fatal Overdoses in Roanoke County higher in first five months of 2020 than all of 2019

Roanoke, VA – Pinnacle Treatment Centers, a leader in providing accessible treatment for individuals struggling with substance use disorders, has opened Pinnacle Treatment Services of Roanoke in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Located at 5335 Peters Creek Road, Suite 1, in Roanoke, the program serves as Pinnacle’s ninth outpatient addiction treatment center in the state and opens at a time when drug and alcohol treatment is much needed.

“Given the opioid epidemic in Roanoke and throughout the state, there is a drastic need for treatment, especially now when we’re seeing a rise in drug use and overdoses. We are committed to bringing affordable care directly into the community to help solve this crisis,” stated Joe Pritchard, CEO, Pinnacle Treatment Centers, who made his personal journey through recovery and now celebrates 45 years of sobriety. Pritchard is now dedicated to helping others and recognizes the need for outpatient programs designed to offer support in managing stress while providing patients with relapse prevention strategies, and connecting them with community support.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam recently shared that dispatchers in Roanoke County have responded to twice as many fatal overdoses in the first five months of this year than they did in all of 2019. Pinnacle Treatment Centers hopes to offer solutions where they are needed most.

Conveniently located within the business district of Northwest Roanoke City, Pinnacle Treatment Services of Roanoke is one of a select few treatment facilities in the area to provide underserved communities with affordable substance abuse treatment and the option of outpatient care. This model of care empowers patients to take control of their treatment as it affords them the opportunity to still maintain employment and family commitments while getting the treatment necessary to address their recovery.

Pinnacle Treatment Services of Roanoke is a sister facility to Pinnacle’s Leesburg Treatment Services in Richmond and plans to eventually carry the same service lines including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) utilizing buprenorphine, and partial hospitalization programming.

At this time, Pinnacle Treatment Services of Roanoke offers intensive outpatient services (IOP) for adult men and women who will participate in programming three to five days per week. In conjunction, recovery residences with 24-hour living support and structure are available. General outpatient counseling is also an option. As licensing allows, a more comprehensive service line will be available for patients.

“There is such a great need for a continuum of care in this area which will allow us to engage individuals for a longer period of time to promote their continued recovery,” said Krista Mobley, executive director of Pinnacle Treatment Services of Roanoke. “And being able to ultimately offer MAT is a true example of Pinnacle as an organization embracing the harm reduction philosophy in addiction treatment.”

As part of the clinical curriculum at Pinnacle Treatment Services of Roanoke, psycho-educational groups will be offered, covering topics such as communication and relationships, relapse prevention, addiction and mental health education, mindfulness practices, life skills, healthy living, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as process groups.

The center will accept self-pay and both private and Medicaid insurance.

“Community support has been so positive and inspiring. I think the community as a whole appreciates that we’re part of the solution to the opioid crisis and that we’re here to help the residents of this area, with new options in group and individual counseling, and expanded space for our nurses and doctors to provide FDA-approved medications that control opioid cravings and facilitate other important recovery activities,” Mobley added.
